UKRAINE AND ROMANIA SHAMEFUL DOG GENOCIDE

Looking at the world pet cruelty scene is a truly depressing experience. As well  as the incredibly depraved things people do daily to animals, birds and sea creatures ( some of them so disgusting that many can't watch or vomit on the spot)) there's the added stigma of the stench it brings to humanity's reputation.

Most creatures, including farm animals, have no proper legal protection. It would be nice if there was a worldwide protection system for ALL. Hopefully one day humanity will awaken and this will happen but it needs to be policed properly and punishments need to be severe enough to set stern examples.

Present laws in various countries mostly cover pets, like dogs and cats, but they are often not policed sufficiently and when caught culprits are not punished enough.

Over past months dogs have been high on the world cruelty scene. There have been many terrible individual cases of neglect, beatings, torture and slaughter. It's bad enough that nations like China, Korean and Vietnam use dogs as food, skin and boil them alive in the name of tradition but in Eastern Europe a dog genocide has been going on that has involved the dog populations of  the Ukraine and Romania.

Because of the 2012 Euro Football Championships host countries like Ukraine has been hoping for a surge of sports tourism. This has resulted in the killing of many thousands of homeless dogs to hide the country's neglected and abandoned dogs from tourists.

Animals are poisoned, shot, often burned alive. Authorities in Ukrainian cities use a cremation truck . The animals are caught, shot or anesthetized and thrown into the cremation truck

In Romania it's much the same. The Parliament passed a law to exterminate all stray dogs. That means death for a reported 1,000,000 dogs. The way they are killed is just as cruel. Many are not euthanased and are being starved to death which is truly disgusting.

All this is being done in  these countries despite strong world opinion against the killing. In stead of trying to solve the dog problem in a humane manner as other countries have done Ukraine and Romania have arrogantly and cruelly gone on a mass killing spree.

Personally I hope any soccer matches in their countries flop and that their tourism figures become historically low for who would want to visit such cold hearted countries where killing man's best friend is accepted.

There are various organisations fighting  to save these dogs. One that I know concerns the dogs in Romania. In English it's called Our Friends Dog Rescue Romania They need help fast at the moment to establish a shelter for dogs.
