RELIGION NEEDS A RETHINK

If a  religion does not compassionately encompass all life is it really enough for you?

Established religions like Christianity, Judaism and Islam seem only concerned with humans. Followers are told they are special and above all other life.  The religions condone the killing of animals and even sacrifice them  to their gods. There is little - if any - consideration about pollution of the environment,  protection of wildlife or animal welfare.

The operators of these religions - the priesthoods - confine people's beliefs with a set of "holy" rules that give little room for free thinking or thought outside the square of religious doctrine. Only Buddhism - basically a philosophy - encourages universal compassion and enlightenment.

Historically established religions have done little good in the world, being the cause of constant wars, killings, torturing and butchery - and the general promotion of hate instead of the love they profess to represent.

Current events in the Middle East depict this clearly and prove how misguided religious thinking can get when people are not encouraged to think freely for themselves.

The mass power possessed by religions could be put to better and more holy use.

For example. religious teaching could include compassion for all  life, including all other living creatures and this living planet. It could encourage followers to try and understand the relativity of everything and to individually and en masse take responsibility for making the world a kinder and more dignified place.

Surely cruelty to animals is a sin and killing is immoral. Humans can elevate themselves to a higher spiritual plane - a level of existence higher than the savagery of the past - simply by being compassionate and understanding and seeing the reality of this wonderful world.
