WHY?
Why is it that we love and adore animals and birds as pets - yet kill and eat them if they are not?
Most people with a dog or cat would get pretty upset if anything happened to it.
If , for example, someone tried to skin it alive, vivisect it, hack it to death for meat or throw it alive into boiling water to cook - they would get really really mad.
Yet when they eat meat as a food they don't even think about it as an animal just like us, that it was slaughtered and cut, that it was terrified and screamed and bled and received no mercy.
Do we even realise that all animals have feelings, emotions and intelligence? Pets do, like dogs, cats, horses - and so do all the others - even chickens, even mice and rats.
There's not an animal on this earth that does not have some sentient feelings like joy and happiness, fear and terror, love and pain. Some animals even cry.
What I'm getting at is that we are ALL animals and part of Mother Nature. We share this life journey together and since there is no reason for killing and eating the flesh of others why can't we live and let live?
I personally think it is morally wrong to kill and eat other beings, whether they be animals, birds or sea creatures. It has nothing to do with religion and anyway religions do not teach compassion for animals.
It is all a matter of humans who have more ability showing compassion towards their fellow animals and the environment.
Currently we live in an age of gluttony, greed and vanity. We are not spiritually progressing as a species. We live an illusion and destroy everything we touch.
A more compassionate regard towards animals might help put us back on the right road and help enlighten us to the truer meanings of our existence.
