HUMANS WITH HALOS

There are lots of nasty people in the world, vane, arrogant, obnoxious, greedy, selfish, deceitful , bad mannered.

There are also lots of good guys - human angels.

They're all around us.

First think of hospitals.

Get admitted to a hospital and within minutes you will meet humanity at its best - kind, caring, patient, generous, polite, well mannered and smiling.

But humans with halos can also be found in other locations.

They mostly work for nothing. They are devoted volunteers and can toil as long as 24 hours a day to save a life.

Who are they?  They are those compassionate people who work in support of animal welfare and rescue - who oppose animal cruelty and respect all wildlife.

My research has shown a totally amazing dedication by volunteers to the cause of animal welfare.

Just locally here they include groups like http://friendsofthepound.com/ at Tweed Heads, the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League Queensland up on the Gold Coast.

They deal mostly with cats and dogs whereas Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers ( www.tvwc.org.au ) deal with birds and many other creatures in the wild.

Dealing with wildlife can be really scary and often calls for special training, especially when dealing with reptiles.  It can involve wading through hot and dangerous mossie invested floodlands and tropical forest.

This Tweed Valley region here is abundant with bird and animal life. Birds are of very many kinds and include eagles, pelicans, isis, owls and ducks. Animals include kangaroos, wallabies and possums. Flying foxes and bats are also on the long list.

Many cases involve dog and cat attacks.  Perhaps the saddest thing to see are birds and animals damaged by pollution, especially netting, fishing line, barbed wire and plastics.  Electricity is another killer.

I bless all these lovely caring people. Without our pets and our wildlife the world would be a pretty dull affair.
