A BABY'S CRY

To graze green fields and breath fresh air,
To live with mum and in her care,
And drink her milk, her love to share
Is all I wished when I was born.

But men have taken me away
And dragged me as they sweat and swear
To some place else alone to stay
In  darkness, hunger and despair

And now the men are kicking me
I am so sore and hurt so much
I call for mum and I can't see
I love her and I need her touch

Dairy farming is one of the vilest forms of farming. Cows are constantly made pregnant to produce milk for money but their babies are snatched from them and murdered or sold as veal.

When their babies are taken away, mother cows are hooked several times a day to milking machines. They are genetically manipulated, artificially inseminated and drugged to make them produce some four and a half times more milk than they normally would feed their calves.

A cow's natural lifespan is about 25 years but in the dairy industry they are killed after four or five years. By the time they are killed 40 per cent are lame because of intensive confinement, filth and the strain of pregnancy and milking. The dead cows'bodies are turned into soup, animal food or low grade hamburger meat.

Behind the clean, smiling farmer, green meadows advertising image of dairy farming is a dark world of horror, cruelty and killing. The food industry hides this horror from consumers.

We do not have to consume these products. There are plenty of good non-dairy alternative foods. If we do consume them then we are condoning vile animal cruelty and killing that is totally unnecessary - other than putting money into the pockets of the heartless food business.
