REFLECTIONS

It was my birthday last month. I am now 79 and as  I approach octogenarianism I look back at previous life and compare it with present times, especially when I think of people's attitudes to birds, animals and Nature generally.
I see beauty in animals such as these graceful Brahmans who have sentient feelings just like us
Decades ago it was different. Then, people were more in touch with Nature and wildlife. There were fewer distractions. Science, materialism and technology did not rule. We were more aware of smells, colours and the vibrance of Nature. We even believed in fairies.

The air was fresher, the rivers and oceans cleaner and nobody yet knew of things like plastic pollution or climate change.

Farm animals were slaughtered for food but there was more respect for the creatures. They were not cruelly force grown in windowless factory farms, doused with chemicals and tortured. There were no commercialised assembly lines of non-stop killing.

And people ate far less meat before and generally far less food.  There was no worldwide obesity problem, like there is now. The age of gorging food and of universal obesity was a nightmare yet to come.
I believe even a little mouse has the right to live
People respected the environment and farmers put back into the soil as well as taking from it. The chemical treatment of food was rare. Most food was naturally organic and people bought their vegetables fresh daily.

I am a bit sad I awoke to the truth of the situation late in life. The horrors of the modern day food industry are shattering and I try and do my little bit to make people aware of the cruelty and wrong doing.

I know the horror of meat production and planet pollution may never disappear but that does not mean we should not keep trying to reduce or stop it.  I believe Man will never advance spiritually until he stops killing everything.
Sheep console each other before death
I'll keep protesting till I drop off my perch. There is no way I will ever condone cruelty or slaughter of birds and animals and other creatures. It is morally wrong.

I believe all sentient creatures have the right to life and freedom and we should treat them as we would want to be treated ourselves.
