I've now been Vegetarian for a decade - since 2006.
Why?
Because of things like -
1/ Discovering modern meat didn't taste so good. It's not natural. It's forced grown with chemicals and antibiotics in hell houses called factory farms - and it stinks.
2/ Discovering the terrible cruelty to farm animals like cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry in factory farms and slaughter houses. The killing is so uncivilised I just do not want to be a part of it.
3/ Discovering all these animals and more actually have feelings the same as us. They have central nervous systems and have surprising intelligence and emotions. They feel fear and pain, pleasure and joy. They are sentient beings.
4/ Discovering meat production is one of the world's biggest polluters and wasters of water.
5/ Discovering meat and diary products are not good for your health and can in fact cause illness and death. Even the World Health Organisation says so.
It was especially when I saw how slaughterers were killing cattle and sheep that I made the decision to be a vegetarian. The killing was so horrific, bloody and cruel that I could not bear it. My heart went out to those fellow animals who shivered and moaned in terror as they watched their brothers and sisters slowly slaughtered, battered and beaten in front of them. Some even butchered while still alive.
I will never eat the flesh of other animals as long as I live and I will do my best to stop the cruelty.
The fancy names we give to meat like rump steak, chops, T-bone, hamburger, kebab - is nonsense. It's actually all just dead animal flesh, dead fellow beings that died in terror.
The irony is that nowadays there is no need for us to eat meat. We can get all we need from other foods.
