Vegetarians & Vegans Vie for a Better World

I'm thinking the number of Vegans and Vegetarians in the world is increasing. Their voices - especially Vegan ones - have greatly increased in the various media worldwide.

There's a feeling that a new awakening is dawning that is expanding compassion for animal welfare and better health and food nutrition.

Much of it is the result of an increased awareness of gross animal cruelty worldwide, the immorality of slaughtering other beings, a better understanding of animals as sentient, intelligent beings like us, and a greater knowledge of food and what we should really be eating.

Currently Vegans are using a variety of tactics to persuade people to change their eating habits but some sectors  are coming on a bit too strong in my opinion - too aggressively.

This makes people go on the defensive. The uncompromising approach - that overlooks Vegetarianism and wants people to immediately become Vegan - is too much for many people.

Vegetarianism is a perfect introduction to Veganism - and even if people don't eventually become Vegan it still serves a very worthy purpose.  Not everyone can suddenly become a Vegan which calls for a very substantial change in beliefs and eating habits.

So I think Vegans should perhaps promote both Vegetarianism and Veganism - or at least take a more gentle approach when promoting Veganism.

I am more concerned at the number of Vegetarians dropping out than the number becoming Vegan because I think there is more chance initially of people becoming Vegetarian than becoming Vegan.

I have been a Vegetarian for 10 years and have gone as far as I can at present. Maybe one day I will elevate to Vegan but I know I cant do it just now. There must be many like me - but whichever V you choose we are all on the same side, fighting for the same cause.
